After graduating with a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree with Distinction in Research from the University Of Rochester School Of Medicine (NY), Dr. Pateder completed his internship and residency training in orthopedic surgery at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. After residency, he completed a combined neurosurgery and orthopedic spine surgery fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Pateder is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery.

After his fellowship, he was an attending spine surgeon at the world-renowned Steadman Hawkins Clinic in Vail, Colorado where he treated many professional athletes and members of the United States Ski Team. Dr. Pateder joined the team of orthopedics specialists at Town Center Orthopaedic Associates, a group practice offering services to treat all ranges of orthopedic conditions in Northern Virginia and the suburbs of Washington DC.

Dr. Pateder has performed extensive research in the field of spine surgery, particularly in the treatment of scoliosis. Dr. Pateder’s work has been presented at multiple national and international meetings, and his research has been published in numerous scientific articles and book chapters. He is the recipient of multiple awards for his clinical work and research. Dr. Pateder has also served as an instructor in advanced techniques in scoliosis surgery and minimally invasive decompressions and fusion procedures for other surgeons. In addition, he is involved in the design and improvement of instruments used during spinal surgery.
